Appeal after serious collision on M40

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision on the M40 near High Wycombe on Saturday.

A grey motorcycle, a black Volkswagen Polo, and a blue Hyundai Tucson were involved in the collision on the London-bound carriageway between junction four for High Wycombe and three for Loudwater at around 8.40pm.

The motorcycle had a pillion passenger, a woman in her late teens, who suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition. No other injuries have been reported.

The motorcycle rider, a 20-year-old man from Maidenhead, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody at this time.

Both car drivers are assisting our investigation.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Oliver Cahill-Smith, of the Joint Operations Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim of this collision, who is in a critical condition in hospital, and her loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

“I am appealing for any witnesses of this collision or anyone with dash-cam footage relating to it to call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43260088366.

“If you were driving on the M40 or the Handy Cross roundabout at around 8.40pm yesterday and have a dash-cam, please check your recording in case it has captured something that could assist us and get in touch if you have.”
